On 5/7/2010 I had the pleasure of performing with Barry Devlin and Jim Lockhart. Barry sang "The Wrath Of The Rain" with Jim on Keyboards while
black 47 served as the backup band. This all being filmed at Paddy Reilly's in NYC as part of a documentary series for Irish TV tracing the journey of an
Irish man named Micky MacGowan who emigrated at the end of nineteenth century and worked his way across North America before striking it rich in the Klondike Gold Rush.
I had a chance to ask Jim about the song listed on this Outlet recording labeled "Musical Far East". Jim wrote me back today:
Hi Fred,
Our original title for that tune was the Musical Priest, but apparently Far East is cockney
rhyming slang for priest so i guess that's how it got sneaked in. I was always amazed later
at how fast we played it, too. That night in Paddy Reilly's was excellent craic -
Barry and I stayed on till the Prodigals finished up much later. Thanks for having us,
we enjoyed it hugely. Two weeks later we were paddling a canoe up the Yukon, panning for
gold in a creek bed and coming out of the saloon at midnight to find it was broad daylight.
Culture shock or what!
All the best,
Jim
