Celebrate with Black 47, leaders of Celtic Rock
Black 47, leaders of Celtic Rock, will celebrate their 21st birthday at
Connolly’s on Saturday, November 20. Located at 121 W. 45th Street in NYC, make
sure you catch it because Connolly’s won’t feature Black 47 again until New
Year’s Eve!
Black 47 has been an influential segway for other Irish-influenced bands such
as Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys. Their song, “Big Fellah,” was featured
on last week’s episode of Sons of Anarchy on FX for three uninterrupted
minutes. In addition, Black 47 leader Larry Kirwan co-hosted a national pledge
campaign with Laura Savini at Music of Ireland, Welcome to America on
PBS.
Kirwan also provided all the vocal backing for the performance of
Carrickfergus on Martin Scorcese’s Boardwalk Empire “Nights in
Ballygrant” episode.
Black 47’s album, Trouble in the Land, has been voted “top
Irish-American album of the decade” by IrishCentral.com.
The band has been profiled in most major publications, as seen in some of the
most popular magazines and newspapers in the U.S. as well as appearing on Jay
Leno and Conan O’Brien’s late-night shows.
Help celebrate with Larry Kirwan (on guitar and vocals), Geoffrey Blythe
(saxophones), Fred Parcells (trombone), Thomas Hamlin (drums), Joseph Mulvanerty
(uilleann pipes and various flutes), and Joseph “Bearclaw” Burcaw’s funk/R&B
magnetic stage presence as they embark upon 21 years of influential Celtic Rock!
Be sure to pick up Black 47’s new compilation CD, Funky Ceili – The Party
Songs, in Feb. 2011.
